Got a few extra slices of bread?  Transform them into this delectable breakfast or serve it as a dessert.  A dollop of cool ice cream on the warm apples is an amazing combination in itself!

Ingredients:

  • Bread - 4 slices torn
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Chopped apples - 2 large
  • Butter - 4 tbsp
  • Brown sugar - 0.5 cup
  • Cinnamon powder - 1 tsp
  • Cloves - 4-5 powdered
  • Nutmeg powder - 0.5 tsp (optional)
  • Vanilla extract

Method:

  • Set the oven or air fryer to preheat at 375° F (190° C)
  • Add 3 tbsps of butter in a vessel
  • When it melts, add the diced apples and coat with the butter
  • Prepare crumble with reserved 1 tsp butter and 2 tsp brown sugar and set aside
  • When it softens (turns color), add the remaining brown sugar and cinnamon
  • Let it cook on low heat
  • Whisk the eggs; add milk, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla extract and whisk again
  • Pour this liquid on the layered bread pieces.  Be sure that all the pieces soak up the liquid well
  • Now layer the cooked apples evenly on the bread
  • Top it with the butter and sugar crumble prepared
  • Bake it for 35-40 mins (depends on the pan and oven) or until there are no bubbles formed on the top (20 mins. in air fryer)
  • Cool on the rack for a few minutes
  • Cut pieces and serve warm with a topping of vanilla ice-cream as dessert!

Tips and Tricks:

  • This is an easy way to uplift any stale bread also since the milk and eggs rejuvenate it
  • Serve without ice-cream and it becomes a sumptuous French breakfast toast with fruit
  • Porcelain bakeware makes cleanup a breeze
