In no particular order, but will help reduce kitchen time exponentially!
Gadget #1: A reliable electric pressure cooker
Instant Pot is THE BEST. This versatile device reduces the time spent on 'watching the food'! Can set the timer to start cooking at a later time and serve it hot. Boil milk, make yogurt, slow cook, cook beans evenly, saute, make soups...
Gadget #2: A powerful blender (with not too many parts)
Save time in blending as well as clean up.
Gadget #3: Hot water kettle
Multiple uses! Heat the water to expedite a recipe. Hot water for rinsing out the blender. Hot water for coffee/tea.
Gadget #4: Small coffee grinder
Aids in quickly powdering small amounts of spices as and when needed. The flavanoids released in freshly ground spices are more flavorful.
Gadget #5: Electic shredder
Grating for any recipes becomes a breeze. Helps make healthy, quick and fancy salads.
Gadget #6: Heavy bottom pots and pans
Aids in even cooking and easy cleanup.
Gadget #7: Seasoned cast iron pans
Food tastes and roasts much better on iron than any other kind. Makes food healthier and eliminates the need for harmful non-stick spray oils.
To 'season' new pans, apply oil generously and leave the pans in the sun for the whole day. Repeat for 4-5 days. Then, wash without over scrubbing the layer of oil that is 'baked into the pan' in the sun.

Gadget #8: Porcelain bakeware
Cleanup is quick and can go from oven to table to the fridge without having to transfer the food.
Gadget #9: Electic juicer
Can quickly squeeze any citrus fruit. Specially used to squeeze and store lemon juice in bulk.
Gadget #10: Pumpkin Stalk
As strange as it may sound :). Save a long, straight, pumpkin stalk. Use this to spread the oil on cast iron pans, especially while making dosas, pancakes, etc. Reduces the usage of oil, spreads the oil evenly and as a result, food doesn't stick to the pans. This can be washed (even in a dishwasher) and stored away for repeated usage. In fact, it becomes hard like a stone due to usage over the years! (Mine are at least 22 yrs old!)
Gadget #11: Pasta pot
Can prove handy for many other dishes that need straining (like noodles). Can be used to make idlis also!
Gadget #12: Zester
Zest, of citric fruit especially, makes foods taste divine! A zester ensures proper and easy zesting, quickly.
Wow! Who would have thought that a Pumpkin Stalk could be used in such a way. I must try it, as right now i use a old brush or sometimes a rolled up paper towel that gets very messy and saturated each time i need to dip it in the oil. (21 yrs old? Wow!)
ReplyDeleteYes :) This is a trick both my grandma and mom have used!
DeleteCheck mine out in the picture I just updated on the post.
With this you will pour a little oil on the pan and then spread it with the stalk, so you won't be wasting oil also.
