# of servings:  Multiple
Preparation Time:  5 mins            Cook Time:  None

This item under the 'Specials' category is an integral part of a pooja plate.  The akShataa represent the unbroken, universal entity in us all.  This is an essential component during festival celebrations or while seeking blessings from elders too!

Ingredients:

  • Unbroken rice - 2 cups
  • Ghee - few drops
  • Turmeric - 0.5 tsp per cup of rice
  • Kumkum - 0.5 tsp per cup of rice (optional)

Method:

  • If making both colors, take half the unbroken rice in a vessel
  • Drizzle 5-6 drops of ghee and massage it into the rice grains
  • Sprinkle turmeric on the rice and mix until the color evens out
  • Fill up the pooja plate and store the rest in an air-tight container
  • Place the rest of the rice in the vessel
  • Drizzle 5-6 drops of ghee and massage it into the rice grains
  • Sprinkle kumkum on the rice and mix until the color evens out
  • Fill up the pooja plate and store the rest in an air-tight container
  • Pray, worship, bless!

Tips and Tricks:

  • The ghee binds the color to the rice grains and keeps it well for a long time
  • Be sure to not add too little or too much ghee.  Little makes the color feeble; too much makes the akShataa greasy
